Baby Spoon Has Arrived

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Yup. Mr. and Mrs. SpoonFighter have welcomed Little SpoonFighter into the world. I’ll be back to writing as soon as things settle down a bit.

Political Rant

Friday, May 19th, 2006

For the record, my basic objection to President Bush and his administration is not his policies, but rather the lack of candor. It’s the unwillingness to take responsibility for failures and the refusal to provide raw, un-spun, unflattering information, especially in regard to the situation in Iraq.

Future generations will judge Mr. Bush against presidents like Truman, who made it clear that “The Buck Stops Here”, or Kennedy, who took public, personal responsibility for the Bay Of Pigs fiasco. These leaders understood that it was more important for people to trust the Office of the President, than for them to have a good impression of the person holding that office. Trust is built and maintained by acknowledging the truth, even when it isn’t flattering or convenient.

Brought to you by the letter M and the number 5

BMW M5 I don’t know if it’s true for little girls, but every little boy dreams about having a Fast Car which, at the push of a button, becomes The Fastest Car in the Universe. Back in the ’80s, that car was a Trans-Am named “KITT”. Today, that car is the 2006 BMW M5. CNN has a good story about it, here. (I think perhaps little girls dream of having a husband who, at the push of a button, goes from making $200,000 to $300,000 per year.)

You must understand, I’ve never bought a new car in my life. Ever. But I am seriously, like, this close to selling my house, my laptop, my wife and both kidneys so that I can own this car.

Under normal operating conditions, it’s got a stout 400 hp. But merely press a button and 100 additional horsies are added, dropping the gas mileage to 10 mpg, and boosting your top speed to … 190 mph. A four-door car that can go as fast as a Ferrari and go through gas as fast as a Hummer. Makes me proud to be German-American.

They Tell Me The Weather Is Beautiful

Springtime in Denver is breathtaking. I get to enjoy it from behind windows and windshields, and for the approximately 4 accumulated minutes I spend walking between my car and various buildings every day.

It’s not really that bad, but I wish I could get out more this year. We’re so busy getting the decks cleared prior to the arrival of Spoon Jr. that there isn’t any time for getting out into nature.

People are driving with their windows down, and my neighborhood, where Black, Latino and White live together in relative harmony, is constantly serenaded with the sounds of each culture’s music: Rap, Polka, and Sirens.

Speaking of which, I’m amazed at the number of Rap and R&B cuts about the fascinating subject of “Being at the Club”. I had no idea it was such a rich wellspring of artistic material. In that way, it is a lot like “Bling”, I suppose.

I have been doing a lousy job of blogging lately. I was starting to see a significant increase in the number of unique visitors, but I suspect I’ve ruined that trend. I miss the comment spam, too. Please, spammers, don’t stop. I love hearing about cheap software, prescription drugs and adult items. Really.
